Hydraulic Press Inventor
Hydraulic CarsIt must be memorized that 25 years ago, and somewhere from there back, the characteristics of rubber-seals ..... There are many people who often ask as to who invented the hydraulic press. It was Joseph Bramah who is regarded as the hydraulic press inventor. Joseph Bramah was born in the small town of Stainborough in Yorkshire, England. He was an inventor as well a locksmith. Joseph earned his first money by becoming a farmer. However he sustained an injury and so he had to divert his work to woodworking. He then migrated to London and came up with an invention that would change the lives of millions of people worldwide. The invention n was known as the hydraulic press. He also invented the flush toilet as well as a machine that could automatically start counting bank notes with sequential serial numbers. He also invented the beer pump and the lock.
Bramah started a very famous lock company by the name of Bramah Locks. The hydraulic press is also known as the Bramah pres as it was invented by him. The hydraulic press consists of two cylinders which are filled with a liquid and fitted with a piston. The two cylinders are connected by a pipe which is filled with a liquid. One cylinder is of a smaller diameter than the other cylinder.
When pressure is exerted on the smaller piston it is transmitted undiminished through the liquid to the surface of the larger piston. The total pressure is the same for both the pistons but, the total upwards force on the larger piston is many times more than the total upward force on the smaller piston. This is because the area of the larger piston is more than the area of the smaller piston. When the pistons move, the proportion of area that the smaller piston travels through is more than distance than the larger piston travels. Hence the law of conservation of energy is satisfied.
There is also the hydraulic jack which uses Pascal's law. The hydraulic jack is most commonly used to exert large forces as well as to lift heavy loads. The hydraulic jack also consists of two different sized pistons which are connected by a pipe. When the smaller piston moves back and forth, the liquid is pumped into the cylinder of a larger piston which forces the larger piston to move. Hence a small force applied to the smaller piston can help to raise a heavy load on the larger piston.
